US Civil War, USS Casco, was a light draft monitor designed for service on the Mississippi River. In 1865 she was the newest and last of the 20 ironclads of the Casco class, designed for operating in the shallow bays, rivers, and inlets. The ships were very slow and unseaworthy. The failure caused a Navy inquiry, with blame assigned to Chief Engineer Alban Stimers
