US Civil War, Winter Campaign in Virginia, Jan 21, 1862. After his one-sided defeat at Fredericksburg, Burnside tried to salvage his campaign by attacking Lees army from another angle. This became the Mud March, sketched here near Falmouth, by Alfred Waud. On Jan. 26, Burnside was relieved of his command and replaced with Major General Joseph Hooker
