Colonel Benedict Arnold was appointed commander
Colonel Benedict Arnold was appointed commander of West Point in July 1780 by George Washington. Three month later his treason to surrender the fort to the British was exposed when British Major John Andre was captured. Arnold was protected and taken into the British Army as a Brigadier General. After the war, he lived in exile in Britain and Canada
