Commodore George Washington Morrison Nutt and Minnie Warren, ca. 1863. The photo suggests they were a romantic couple, or possibly dressed for a wedding. Actually, Nutt was then heartbroken over his failed courtship of Minnies sister, Lavinia, who married General Tom Thumb. Minnie would marry Edmund Newel, (aka General Grant, Jr.) and tragically die from childbirth after the delivery of a six pound baby
