Confederate General Simon Bolivar Bruckner. After he surrendered Fort Donelson to Union General Ulysses Grant, on Feb. 16, 1862, he spent 5 months as a POW, until exchanged, when rejoined Confederate operations in Kentucky. After the US Civil War, he was active in Democratic Party politics and served as Governor of Kentucky from 1887 to 1891. Photo by Theodore Lilienthal
