Confederate soldier, Sergeant Andrew Chandler
Confederate soldier, Sergeant Andrew Chandler, and a family slave, Silas Chandler, 1861-63. Silas accompanied Andrew during his military service. Later, in Sept. 1863, Andrew faced a leg amputation after the Battle of Chickamauga. Silas notified the Chandler family to evacuate him to Atlanta, where a doctor saved the leg. Both men survived the Civil War, raised families, and died within a year of one another in 1919 and 1920
