A council was arranged between Shawnee chief Tecumseh and American general and Territorial Governor, William Henry Harrison, July 27, 1811. Tecumseh arrived with 175 well armed warriors, while Harrison was supported by 70 soldiers. Militantly Tecumseh demanded the return of all Indians lands acquired through purchase from individual tribes. When Harrison thought he had been called liar, he reached for this sword, but no real violence followed. Tecumseh argued that no Native Americans can sell tribal land without the consent of all tribes. Since this was not the custom, he deemed all previous land sales to US government were invalid
