Council of War on USS COLORADO, after it was shelled by Korean shore batteries on June 1, 1871. Punitive measures were planned after Admiral John Rogers (bending over table) did not receive the official apology he demanded from the Koreans. The attack and US reprisal took place in the Ganghwa Straits, near the Han River, an waterway inland to the capital city Hanyang (Seoul). Commanding officer, Captain George H.
