Count Hellmuth von Moltke was Chief of the General Staff of the German army at the outbreak of World War 1. His rigid adherence to the Schieflen Plan caused him to reject the Kaiser's request to not invade Belgium and France, in order to direct all German forces to the Eastern Front. Invading Belgium caused Britain to enter the war against Germany
