THE CRUEL UNCLE AND THE VETOED BABES IN THE
THE CRUEL UNCLE AND THE VETOED BABES IN THE WOOD, is a political cartoon about President Andrew Johnsons controversial vetoes of 1866. He refused to sign a bill extending the Freedmens Bureau beyond its scheduled termination in 1867, and the first Civil Rights Bill which granted citizenship to the freedmen. Both vetoes were overridden, the first such vote on a major bill in American history
