Czech Capt. Vladimir S. Hurban was in the Russian Empires forces during World War 1. When Czechoslovakia became an independent nation in 1918, the Czechs resisted participating in the Russian Civil War. Considered traitors by the Russians, they marched through Siberia, ultimately leaving from the eastern port of Vladivostok. Vladimir Hurban was the son of the famous Slovak writer and nationalist leader, Svetozar Hurban Vajansky. (CSU_2015_11_1228)
