Denis Kearney founded the Workingmens Party
Denis Kearney founded the Workingmens Party of California in 1877. As an 1868 immigrant from Ireland, he built a successful wagon transport business in San Francisco. His labor politics were virulently anti-Chinese, and he claimed to have influenced the federal Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882
