Discharged German soldier Fritz Reidel returned to his wife and children, May 21, 1945. U.S. military began discharging German soldiers after medical exams and fingerprinting. They were given 40 marks, discharge papers and transportation to their homes. Reidel, was the first prisoner of war to be released from the POW camp at Plauen, Germany. World War 2 (BSLOC_2015_13_78)
