Edward Beale Mclean and his wife, Evalyn Walsh Mclean the their dogs in 1912. She was the only surviving child of an Irish immigrant, Thomas Walsh, who became wealthy when he struck gold in the 1890s in Colorado. Edward was the son of John R.
