Egypt's strongman premier Muhammad Naguib (left) talking with Lieut. Col. Gamal Abdel Nasser. Shortly afterward, on June 18, 1953, the monarchy was abolished and Naguib became President of the Republic of Egypt. He came into conflict with the Revolution's other strongman, Gamal Abdel Nasser, and was forced out of power in 1954. He lived under house arrest from Nov. 1954 until released in 1972 by President Anwar Sadat. (CSU_2015_11_1247)
