EMBARKATION OF THE PILGRIMS, by Robert W. Weir, 1843, US Capitol Rotunda. The Pilgrims pray on the deck of the ship Speedwell on July 22, 1620, before they depart from Delfs Haven, Holland, for North America. Right from central figure of Elder William Brewster (holding a book), is Governor John Carver (wearing ruff), then Mr. Robinson, pastor of the congregation (with beard), and kneeling is Myles Standish and his wife Rose. The well-dressed couple standing on left are Mr. And Mrs. Edward Winslow. The Speedwell sailed to Southampton, England, to join the Mayflower, for the voyage. When the leaks proved her unseaworthy, its passengers boarded the Mayflower. Five months later the Pilgrims arrived at the Plymouth Colony
