Evangelina Cossia y Cisneros was imprisoned as a rebel during the Cuban War of Independence. Her October 1897 escape was aided and reported by Karl Decker of William Randolph Hearsts hawkish NEW YORK JOURNAL. In 1970, Evangelina was given a full military funeral in Cuba, as one of the last heroes of the Cuban War of Independence (BSLOC_2017_10_7)
