The execution of Incan Atahualpa on July 26, 1533. The 33-year-old emperor is strangled with a pole and rope by African slaves under orders from the Spanish. Francisco Pissarro kidnapped Atahualpa, conditioning his release on an Incan ransom of a room full of gold treasure. After the ransom was paid, he charged Atahualpa of conspiracy, and sentenced him to death
