Execution of Nationalist Silan Lewis in Wilburton, in the Choctaw Nation Oklahoma, Nov. 5, 1895. According to tradition, a Light Horseman, Pusley was asked to perform the execution, which he did with a shot to the heart followed by suffocation. Lewis killed fellow Choctaw Joe Hoklotubbe in a dispute over the partitian of the Reservation into 160 allotments for Indians, with the surplus land reverting to the government for settlement by non-Indians (BSLOC_2018_1_167).
