Exercise Desert Rock, Nov. 1, 1951. Men of the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division, watch a plume of radio-active smoke rise at Yucca Flats. Soldiers conducted maneuvers limiting the radiation exposure dose limit was set at 3.0 rem. However, 68 soldiers received excess exposures from over 3 to 10 rem (Roentgen equivalent man).
