Federal transports on the Tennessee River
Federal transports on the Tennessee River during the US Civil War. After Confederate raiders cut land transport to Union forces at Chattanooga, Gen. Ulysses Grant opened a Tennessee River in combination with a land route. It was nicknamed the Cracker Line, which relieved the siege on Chattanooga in late November 1863
