Federalist Timothy Pickering opposed President
Federalist Timothy Pickering opposed President Thomas Jeffersons Embargo Act of 1807. He continued to support Britain in the Napoleonic Wars, and even conferenced with special British envoy George Rose, requesting he persuade the British to provoke Jefferson, prompting more extreme anti-British measures, damaging the Republican Party. When Pickerings scheming was discovered, he was censured by the Senate for violating the Logan Act, on Jan. 2, 1811
