Fifty-seven wounded Union soldiers captured
Fifty-seven wounded Union soldiers captured at First Bull Run, were exchanged on Oct, 7, 1861. They were seriously disabled POWs held in Richmond, and were exchanged for an equal number of similarly impaired Confederate POWs. They are aboard the US Alabama, a passenger steamer, and accompanied by armed Union soldiers
