Francis Cardinal Spellman with Bishop Fulton J
Francis Cardinal Spellman with Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. In the 1950s, Cardinal Spellman demanded Sheen share contributions to Catholic missions to support Church charities. Sheen refused and Spellman took the issue to Pope Pius XII, who sided with Sheen. Spellman took his revenge, culminating with Sheen's assignment as the Bishop of Rochester in upstate New York in 1966. (CSU_2015_9_1147)
