Frederick Douglass, ca. 1855, former slave and abolitionist orator, escaped slavery in 1838. In 1855 he published his second autobiography, My Bondage and My Freedom. It extended the account of his enslavement in Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, 1845. He brought the auto-biography up to date by describing his abolitionist work and the 1847 founding of a newspaper, The North Star, in Rochester NY (BSIC_2020_7_24)
