French and Indian War. Battle of the Monongahela at the moment of the mortal wounding of British General Edward Braddock on July 9, 1755. Nearby is Major George Washington mounted on a white horse. The one-sided battle ended with Washington leading a British retreat. 1, 300 British and colonial soldiers were defeated by 250 French and 625 Indian fighters and suffered over 900 casualties against less than 100 for the French.
