French and Indian War. The site of a former trading post became the original Fort Ontario and British camp at Oswego, on the south eastern coast of Lake Ontario. The fort was built where the Onondaga River flows into the lake. The fort destroyed by French forces during the Battle of Fort Oswego, 1756, and rebuilt by British forces in 1759
