Future President Abraham Lincoln in May 7
Future President Abraham Lincoln in May 7, 1858 photo by Abraham B. Byers of Beardstown, Illinois. It was taken following the acquittal of Duff Armstrong for the midnight brawl murder of James Metzger. In the Almanac Trial, Lincoln produced an 1857 almanac to argue that the states witness could not have seen Armstrong kill the victim, because there was no moonlight on the night of the killing
