General Andrew Jackson in 1819 military portrait by John Wesley Jarvis. This portrait was painted in New York in 1819, when Jackson was celebrated as the hero of the War of 1812. Jackson commissioned this portrait from Jarvis, who painted at least seven additional Jackson portraits. Samuel Swartwout vouched for the accuracy of the likeness, when he wrote, I have just been to see Jarviss portrait of you. It is inimitable (BSLOC_2017_6_1)
