General Charles Lee resigned his commission
General Charles Lee resigned his commission in the British Army when the American Revolution began in Boston in 1775. He fought at Bunker Hill and New York until his capture in New Jersey in Dec. 1776. After 16 months as a prisoner of war, he returned to Washingtons command. During the Battle of Monmouth, June 18, 1778, he made an unauthorized retreat, which ended his military career
