General Chiang Kai-shek and Admiral Yang Xuancheng, ca. June 1927. Right wing factions of Chiang's Kuomintang Party led the Shanghai Massacre of Communists on April 12, 1927. This marked the beginning of the Chinese Civil War that ended a Communist victory in 1949. Yang Xuancheng headed Chinese military intelligence during World War II. (CSU_2015_8_660)
