George Washington led an eight man British
George Washington led an eight man British mission in 1753 carrying a letter from Virginia colonial Governor Robert Dinwiddie, protesting French encroachment at the Forks of the Ohio. The French Fort Duquesne at the site of present day Pittsburgh, was built on territory Virginia claimed as British. Washington was then a 21 year old Major in the Virginia Militia
