German Army patrol in Berlin during the Nazi Party purge of the Sturmabteilung (SA) leadership. June 30-July 2, 1934. Nazi Storm Troopers (Sturmabteilung, SA) had become a liability to Hitler after he became Chancellor in 1933. The purge, Night of Long Knives, decapitated their leadership and subordinated their role in the Nazi movement. Ernst Roehm and at least 85 others were murdered. (BSLOC_2015_13_47)
