Horace Greeley, c.1868, was a politically active American publisher from the 1830s to 1872. in 1840 he established a daily newspaper, the New-York Tribune, which followed the politics of the US in the turbulent years of sectionalism, Civil War, and Reconstruction. He unsuccessfully ran for President against Ulysses Grant in 1872
