Hugh Herndon Jr. (right) and Clyde Panborn, co-pilots and co-aviators, planning an 11 day flight. In New York City, March 18, 1931. Herndon's mother, Standard Oil heiress Alice Boardman, financed the $100, 000 flight in a special long distance Bellanca plane. They completed the flight, becoming the first to fly non-stop across the Pacific Ocean. (CSU_2015_7_398)
