Inca Emperor Atahualpa captured by Pizarro
The Inca Emperor Atahualpa was captured by Spanish soldiers at Cajamarca, Peru, on November 16, 1532. After months of inconclusive contact, Atahualpa invited Pizarros small force of about 180 soldiers to meet with him at his fortified city of Cajamarca. The Spanish arrived first to set up an ambush, which became known as the Battle of Cajamarca. This print depicts the action outside the city, but it occurred with the walls of the city in the distance
