Irish born Col. Michael Corcoran found glory
Irish born Col. Michael Corcoran found glory at the First Battle of Bull Run on July 21, 1861. But he had an earlier brush with fame, when he refused to march with the 69th New York Militia in a parade for the Prince of Wales, as a protest against the Irish Famine. During the US Civil War he recruited Irish Americans and rose to the rank of Brigadier General before his death in horse riding accident in 1863
