ITALIAN HILL TOWN, by Arthur B. Davies, 1925, American painting, oil on canvas. This works was probably painted during an Italian vacation in Tuscany, where Davies had a second, common-law wife and children. This 25 year old secret was discovered in 1928, after his sudden death in Italy. His American wife also kept a secret from Davies. Before they met, she eloped to discover her first husband was abusive drug addict and gambler, prompting her to murder him on their honeymoon (BSLOC_2017_7_141)
