Jacqueline Cochran set a new women's world non-stop distance flying record on Sept. 18, 1961. She flew Palmdale, California to Minneapolis in a T-38 supersonic jet trainer for 1492 miles. Col. Chuck Yeager, the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound, and Major Bob White, an X-15 Pilot accompanied Miss Cochran in another jet as escorts. - (CSU_2015_5_40)
