Jefferson Davis and his wife Varina are arrested
Jefferson Davis and his wife Varina are arrested by Union soldiers on the morning of May 10, 1865, in Irwinville, Georgia. This print shows Davis wearing a womens dress and hat, which was an appealing fiction started because Davis was wearing an all-weather overcoat. The military report of his capture made no mention of a knife or any aggressive resistance
