Jessie De Priest, the wife of Congressman Oscar
Jessie De Priest, the wife of Congressman Oscar De Priest of Illinois. In 1929 she was invited and attended a tea with First Lady Lou Hoover and several other Congressional wives. A racist protest followed from some Southern segregationists who felt the event threatened the racial integrity of the white race. (BSLOC_2015_16_139)
