John D. Archbold, independent oilman and critic
John D. Archbold, independent oilman and critic of Rockefeller's growing monopoly in the 1870s. He was recruited into Standard Oil in the early 1880s. After the monopoly was broken up by U.S. courts, he became President of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey from 1911 until his death in 1916 leaving a fortune of $100 million. (CSU_2015_11_1187)
