To promote a rustic American image, it was hung at the entrance of exhibitions of Birds of America. In fact, when in the wilderness, Audubon did wear frontier clothes and carried a ball pouch, a buffalo horn filled with gunpowder, a butcher knife, and a tomahawk on his belt
