John Pierpont Morgan and his chief lieutenant, Robert Bacon, in 1902. In the previous year they formed the U.S. Steel Corporation. The pressure of Bacons job at Northern Securities Company frayed his nerves, and he left the company in 1903. In 1905 he became Assistant Secretary of State in the Theodore Roosevelt Administration
