John Ridge the son of Major Ridge, and a member
John Ridge the son of Major Ridge, and a member of the minority Treaty Party who signed the Treaty of New Echotain of 1835. The land cession was opposed by the majority of the tribe, and the Principal Chief John Ross, but the treaty was ratified by the US Senate. Under the tribal Blood Law, John Ridge was assassinated in Indian Territory by the Ross faction in 1839 after the tribes forced removal from the southeast
