John Surratt, was suspected of involvement in the Lincoln assassination, but evaded capture by escaping to Canada, then to Europe. He was first arrested when working as a Papal Guard. This photo shows Surratt in his Papal Zouave uniform, was publically sold during his 1867 trial. After his trial he got on with his life, was employed, and married with a family
