Joseph Bonaparte gestures to a US diplomat, Supreme Court Justice Oliver Ellsworth, at the signing of the Convention of 1800 in tent pavilion, Sept. 30, 1800. Also called Treaty of Mortefontaine, it ended the 2 year Quasi-War, an undeclared naval war fought in the Caribbean. It also terminated the 1778 Treaty of Alliance signed during the American Revolution
