Joshua Giddings was a Congressman representing Ohio for 20 years, 1838-1859. In 1847-48, Abraham Lincoln and Giddings both lived, at Mrs. B. Spriggs boarding House on Duff Green Row, near Capitol Hill, Washington, DC. Giddings was then an anti-slavery Whig, and influenced Representative Lincolns evolving beliefs on the issue
