Judge Florence E. Allen, was the first woman to serve on a state supreme court. She was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1914 and elected to the Ohio Supreme Court in 1922. In March 1934 President Roosevelt nominated Allen for the Federal Court of Appeals, where she served until her retirement in 1959 (BSLOC_2016_10_76)
