Kansas Republican Senator, Edmund Ross, cast
Kansas Republican Senator, Edmund Ross, cast the decisive vote that acquitted Andrew Johnson during his 1868 presidential impeachment trial. In 1896, Ross published a book, History of the Impeachment of Andrew Johnson. His vote cost him any chance of a second term in the Senate. Ross is one of eight US Senators profiled in John F. Kennedys 1956 history, Profiles in Courage
